The architecture firm that designed Omni Dallas Hotel is expanding with the purchase of an Atlanta firm.

5G Studio Collaborative is merging with DVA Architecture, a small Georgia design group that specializes in entertainment and retail projects.

With the combination, 5G will now have more than 30 professionals working in Dallas, Atlanta and Asia.

“Our company has been looking at acquisition opportunities with other small boutique-design firms over the last 21/2 to three years,” said founding partner Scott Lowe. “We’ve been talking with DVA for about a year and a half.

“They grew through the recession and established a very good, high-end design practice.”

DVA Architecture has been in business since 2007 and has clients including Studio Movie Grill and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Studio Movie Grill, based in Dallas, has multiple locations in the area. Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse is expanding into the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

5G Studio Collaborative has been in business since 2005.

Along with the Omni convention hotel in downtown Dallas, the firm has projects in multiple U.S. markets and Asia.

“We hope to launch an office in Shanghai in mid-2013,” Lowe said. “Right now, we have two people in our Vietnam offices.

“We are working on some large, adaptive reuse projects here in Dallas,” he said. “We are also working on a high-end condo tower in Indonesia right now.”

5G is also designing a resort in Bali, apartment projects in Florida and a Houston residential tower, Lowe said.

The Dallas firm’s founding partners and DVA Architecture founder Mike Voegtle are all alumni of Dallas design firm Beck Group.
