Cool must be the theme for the day. The Dallas summer breeze was the perfect complement to the opening of the city’s coolest new hotel. Mayor Mike Rawlings, Councilwoman Pauline Medrano and real estate developer Jack Matthews celebrated the opening of the new NYLO Dallas South Side Hotel with a standing room only crowd. We captured a few moments with some of the leading players on the NYLO project.

Q: With this opening comes a variety of activities and cultural opportunities for the downtown Dallas area. What will this NYLO location add to the Cedars neighborhood?

A: It’s a great sign that this is becoming an entertainment spot in the city. The entire area is coming back to life due to the vision of some very influential people. – Donnie Nelson, General Manager Dallas Mavericks

Q: How do you think this NYLO location will influence the neighborhood and the surrounding southern Dallas cities? Will your marketing strategy differ from your other North Dallas locations?

A: We believe the whole neighborhood will transition pretty rapidly as a result. There will be an inbound crowd who will appreciate the music venues like Lee Harvey’s and the Palladium and restaurants like The Cedars Social and Poor David’s Pub. Our marketing strategy and efforts will be implemented in the same manner for all three properties. Part of our strategy is to cultivate a partnership with local residents and businesses in the very near future through neighborhood events, like block parties.  - Mike Mueller, CEO of NLYO Hotels

Q: Talk about your plans for future development in the Cedars.

A: We’re adding two different restaurants right next door to NYLO Dallas with an outside covered deck. We’re going to continue the restaurant/live music/condo theme with two-story and three-story structures. We want it to be fun and real. - Jack Matthews, Owner, Matthews Southwest

In his ribbon cutting speech, Mayor Mike Rawlings pronounced the opening “a touchdown!”  With his administration placing heavy emphasis on the GrowSouth initiative, designed to spur unprecedented economic development in Dallas’ southern area, he was loud and proud.  ”This is a big, big day for the City of Dallas, for southern Dallas and for the citizens. Today we show the citizens of Dallas that we’re for real,” said Mayor Rawlings.

The hotel is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification, and possibly gold.  The interior features more than 100 pieces by local artists and many local companies participated in the construction including 5G Studio, Azteca Construction and The Stalwart Group.  The hotel’s Terrace Bistro will offer full service dining and bar, and the rooftop Soda Bar features poolside casual dining with the Dallas skyline as its backdrop.
